Dr. Anthony Buglino has always expressed himself through art—inside and outside of the operating room. This is evident with a single glance at his Instagram account @BuglinoPlasticSurgery. Whether he’s holding a pencil to sketch his daughters or a scalpel to transform a patient’s figure, Dr. Buglino is always exercising his creative muscles. Dr. Buglino chose the plastic surgery field because it enabled him to tap into his artistic skills every day.
“It’s the most rewarding thing that you can do,” Dr. Buglino said of his profession. “With plastic surgery, there’s always a variety, too. It comes in waves. One day you’re doing facelifts, the next you’re doing a breast lift.”
His love for diversity is the main reason Dr. Buglino offers so many different procedures. He can provide an array of surgical procedures from facelifts to breast augmentations to tummy tucks to laceration repairs. He also performs non-surgical procedures such as radio frequency microneedling, mesotherapy, ultherapy, and platelet-rich plasma skin rejuvenation. Patients also indulge in dermal fillers and injectables while at Dr. Buglino’s Woodbury, NY, office. He provides a variety of options ranging from Botox to Radiesse. Not only is the Long Island office certified for surgical procedures, it also has a MediSpa, a state-of-the-art medical-grade spa offering chemical peels, hydrafacials, laser treatments, and intense pulsed light treatments.
Dr. Buglino is able to specialize in such an expansive range of procedures due to his educational and experiential background, as well as his constant desire to learn.
Dr. Buglino earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, FL, before completing his general surgery residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, an affiliate of the Weill Cornell Medical College. During his residency, Dr. Buglino served as chief resident and trained at The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and The New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. He went on to complete a highly-competitive post-graduate fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, one of only four of its kind.
Since his school years, Dr. Buglino has continued his education by training with leading surgeons at renowned medical centers including Jefferson University Hospital, Hahnemann Hospital, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Westchester Hospital/New York Medical College, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, and The Reading Hospital.
“I usually go to two conferences a year and watch live surgery,” explained Dr. Buglino. “Someone will come in, discuss the technique, explain their experience with the surgery and later that afternoon, they’ll cut to the doctor doing the surgery. People are asking questions and he’s answering. They’re the best at what they do. Then you see them after and they’re open to giving information.”
He’s also constantly reading the latest articles and learning the newest techniques.
“There are so many things at your disposal as a plastic surgeon now,” he said. “ Up to the day of surgery, I’m looking at every article, every video, checking out the latest approaches.”
Another major aspect of Dr. Buglino’s background that sets him apart from others is his osteopathic education, which has shaped his mindset and approach to treating patients.
“Osteopathic medicine focuses on the body as a whole,” Dr. Buglino said. “If someone is coming in for liposuction, I’m always going to discuss nutrition and lifestyle change—not just the procedure. You’re never going to have a great result if you don’t continue to maintain what you’re putting in your body. If I think aggressively removing fat quickly will cause skin laxity, I’ll tell them know they’re better off losing weight. I’d rather them do that than be upset with having loose skin.”
With such education, knowledge, experience, and artistic skill, the man behind the surgical suit is trusted by patients across Long Island to safely and accurately perform surgical and non-surgical procedures.
