Summer. Gone are the months of shoveling snow, bundling your body under two blankets, sitting by the fireplace, and caking on moisturizer to defend against the frigid temperatures and dry heat from the radiator. The summer season brings trips to the beach, picnics in the park, and near-constant exposure to vitamin D, a crucial nutrient for skin growth and repair.

Although this mineral is essential, the change in weather can bring about a slew of new skincare challenges that require modifications to your routine. These three months provide enough heat and humidity to keep skin oily, and call for sun protection. To accommodate this,  it’s important you switch up your skincare regimen. It should include lightweight products and brands with SPF, a slight increase in exfoliation, and less time in the shower or bathtub to avoid inflammation and over-drying.

Buglino Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery created the perfect summer skincare routine using our Dr. Anthony Buglino-approved products:

STEP ONE

Wash Your Face With a Gentle Cleanser

With the heat of summer comes excess oil from sweat that seems to never cease. This can linger on your skin, infiltrating your pores with dirt. To combat the potential build-up of unwanted substances on your skin, try using Dr. Buglino’s Skin Deep Cleanser once in the morning and again at night. It is extra gentle, removes makeup, and eliminates acne-causing blackheads and oil buildup.

STEP TWO

Apply a Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin C has the power to prevent hyperpigmentation, a discoloration of the skin which manifests as dark spots or patches. This nutrient can also improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, plus it helps with collagen production. After cleansing your face, but before rubbing on your moisturizer, apply a few drops of Dr. Buglino’s Antiox MD Serum, which contains vitamins C and E, hyaluronic acid, and beta hydroxy acids.

STEP THREE

Swipe on a Light Moisturizer

Push your heavy moisturizers to the back of the drawer and pull the water-based, lightweight moisturizers to the front. During summer months, thick moisturizers can clog pores and cause inflammation and acne. Lightweight products protect you from dryness, but don’t oversaturate your pores. Dr. Buglino offers two options: TheraClear Moisturizer and Skin Rescue Moisturizer.

STEP FOUR

Layer on the SPF

While vitamin D is necessary for your skin, the sun can also cause damage: sunburn, wrinkles, dark spots, and cancers. To protect yourself from harmful rays, lather on sunscreen in the morning, every two hours, or after swimming. Dr. Buglino offers three options. Broad Spectrum SPF 30 contains antioxidants that protect the skin from the sun’s UV rays. Just a Hint of Tint Sunscreen Bronzer SPF 30 provides safety and natural bronzing melanin. For the greatest security, try Optimum Defense Sunscreen SPF 50, a transparent, antioxidant-rich formula enriched with green tea polyphenols, vitamin C, resveratrol, emblica, and CoQ10.

STEP FIVE

Exfoliate With Glycolic Acid at Night

Exfoliation isn’t limited to scrubs mixed with coffee or beads. Dr. Buglino’s Daily Rescue Pads can produce effects similar to that of an in-office chemical peel. These pads contain ingredients such as glycolic acid, which has been proven to remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from one’s skin, leaving your skin fresh. Use these each evening to cleanse your skin of dead and dull skin just before bed.

STEP SIX

Sleep With an Overnight Moisturizer

Because you’ll be keeping your skincare routine light during the day, you’ll want to replenish moisture at night. Dr. Buglino’s Ideal Hydration Moisturizer is an overnight product packed with stem cells, hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and humectants to hydrate your skin.

Dr. Buglino provides a long line of skincare products, ranging from acne treatment to anti-aging rejuvenation to skin tone and sun protection. For more information, call 516-864-0700.
